Day 4 at Junior Worlds

The equipped championships wrapped up on Day 4 of Junior Worlds.  The 105kg class kicked us off and it was a tough session, with three out of nine lifters bombing out. Jørgen Jønvåg NOR broke the long standing sub-junior squat world record with a solid looking 336kg.    His team-mate in the junior category, Knut Einar Skår also put in a days work in squat, making 375kg look amazingly comfortable.  They both stormed to victory in their respective classes, adding crucial team points for Norway.

The final session of the equipped championships was the 120kg and 120+kg classes.   The sub-juniors gave us a neck and neck finish in the 120s with Gracjan Pieper POL sneaking through for the win on bodyweight when USA's Cael McDaniel struggled on deadlifts.  The 120+ was a comfortable win for Guan-Ting Ke TPE though, his 340kg squat being the biggest sub-junior squat of the championships.

In the junior category, Yi-Chiu Wu TPE stormed to victory in the 120kg class and took the best lifter award into the bargain.  Moritz Taschner GER won convincingly in the super heavyweights, with the heaviest squat (405kg) and heaviest deadlift (365kg) of the championships.

Ukraine won the men's sub-junior team award ahead of USA but the positions were reversed for the women's sub-juniors with USA taking top spot ahead of Ukraine.   Best female sub-junior lifter was Amina Karimova KAZ and the best male sub-junior was Vasyl Zbandut UKR.

The team award in the men's juniors saw Norway and India on equal points, both with two world champions.  Norway finished just a handful of GL points ahead and so took the award but India must surely be the most improved team this year.  In the women's juniors, Juliane Slettnes NOR was best lifter but Ukraine beat Norway to the team award - both teams had three world champions but Ukraine had an extra podium finisher.  Linktree in bio for full results.

After four full days of equipped competition, we now plunge straight into the classic event.  Stay tuned, there is plenty more to come.
