Youth handed over to experience with the M2 men lifting in the second session of Day 3 at the Sub-junior, Junior and Masters World Championships in Romania.
Canada’s Lewis Nopper was unopposed in the 66kg class and made
good use of the opportunity to take a deadlift world record with 245.5kg and
then extended it with his third pull to a massive 255.5kg.
Mario Schnurr of Germany was in great form in the 105s, taking
the gold medal in every lift and the best lifter award too with 81.89 GL
points.
Zoltan Kanat of Czechia reigned supreme in the 120kg class – his
300kg squat gave him a 70kg lead over his nearest rival which he continued to
extend until he was 145kg ahead at the end. Even more impressive a victory as
Zoltan moves up to the M3 class next year.
The much anticipated tussle in the 120+kg class fell away when
Valentin Patru failed to make a successful bench press due to some issues with
his left shoulder. The self-proclaimed legend, Wim Wamsteeker from the
Netherlands made a fantastic bid for the deadlift gold but Ronny Andersen from
Norway matched him and took the superheavyweight title.
