We had many world record attempts and an exciting finish in the M2 and M3 women’s competition today!
In the 47kg class, Elena Borgatti from Italy made a spirited
attempt at a deadlift world record of 165.5kg but she couldn’t quite break the
weight from the floor.
Anna Stenghel, also from Italy, took an early lead in the M2
52kg class with an M2 squat world record of 155.5kg. Olga Bychkova of Russia
attempted a world record deadlift of 166kg in a bid to snatch the win – she got
it moving but it ground to a halt at about knee level and Anna took the title.
Eva Buxbom was alone in the M2 57kg class but still delivered
the goods with a world record squat of 174kg and a world record total of 444kg.
Her attempt to break the deadlift world record with 183.5kg was a brave one
given how recently she competed but we expect no less from this seasoned
competitor. Unfortunately it was unsuccessful this time.
After a shaky start, Maureen Gordon of Scotland proved
unstoppable, finishing more than 40kg ahead of her nearest rival but narrowly
missing a couple of attempts at the British bench press record.
If you missed the session, you can watch it back here.
