IPF World Classic 2021 - 76kg class

The 76kg class finished up day 3 of the open competition. Barring some kind of major disaster, this was always going to be the Jessica Buettner show and she did not disappoint. The Canadian Forklift took the world record with 210.5kg on her second squat but she stumbled with 218kg on her third and had to be assisted back into the rack.

Second place in nominations, Joyce Gail Reboton of the Philippines looked strong under the bar but couldn’t get 195kg to depth despite two attempts at the weight and was overtaken by two Italian lifters, Verdiana Mineo and Francesca Parrello taking the silver and bronze squat medals respectively.
Kristina Horvat of Croatia was miles ahead on bench, taking the gold with 115kg from the first group, Reboton and Buettner a fair way behind for silver and bronze. At sub-total, only 2.5kg covered Reboton and the two Italian lifters with Buettner more than 20kg ahead with her best lift still to come.
Jessica pulled even further ahead with her opening attempt of 240kg, taking the world record total in the process. For her second, she nailed the deadlift world record too with a comfortable looking 247.5kg. An attempt to move herself into first place on GL points for the best lifter award with 257kg did not get very far but she had already added 20kg to the total world record and established her position as World Champion.
Brit Sophia Ellis pulled herself into contention with her 205kg opener and continued to add weight to the bar up to 227.5kg for the deadlift bronze and overall 4th. Parrello cemented her silver medal, pulling 230kg for her third with Joyce Gail Reboton having to settle for the overall bronze. A great end to the day.
