IPF World Classic 2021 - 93kg class

The second session on Day 2 of the open was the 93kg class and the long anticipated international debut of USVI’s Jonathan Cayco.

Gustav Hedlund of Sweden started strong, taking the gold on squat ahead of Bulgaria’s Emil Krastev. However, a world record bench of 238kg pulled Cayco to the top at sub-total and there was only 10.5kg covering the top three as we went into deadlifts.
Cayco took the world record in total at 865.5kg with his second deadlift. Hedlund however was only 8kg behind, having matched Cayco’s massive 335kg pull. Krastev started to drop out of contention for the gold, trailing Cayco by 28kg. However, he pulled for the silver, with a mighty 20kg jump to 337.5kg for his third but his grip went before he could lock it out. Cayco came out next with 342.5kg, extending his recently set total record, and showing a lot of emotion as he left the platform, knowing he had done everything he could to stay ahead. With a total world record and the world championship title on the line, Sweden’s own Gustav Hedlund took the roof off with a gutsy attempt at 352.5kg but it didn't get far past his knees Jonathan Cayco was crowned the 93kg World Champion in his first international.
