IPF World Bench 2021 - equipped juniors

On Day 2 of the World Equipped Bench Press Championships, the junior and sub-junior lifters took to the stage. For many of the sub-juniors, this was their first experience of international competition but for many of the juniors, the compressed schedule this year meant that they were competing for the second or third time in just a couple of months.

Kazakhstan ran away with the sub-junior men’s competition, racking up six world champions and taking top three best lifter spots – Anton Marchenko was in first place with 81.9975 GL points.
In the men’s juniors, every world champion was either from Kazakhstan or ROC. ROC just edged ahead with 5 world champions to Kazakhstan’s 4. The best lifter though was Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Shaukatov.
ROC took a stronger lead in the women’s sub-juniors with an astonishing 7 world champions. These included Alina Udaltsova in the 47kg class who broke the 7 year old world record with 90.5kg and then gave us the longest grind of the competition so far with 93.5kg. Arina Demodova took best lifter and also the 57kg world record with a 145.5kg bench. In an amazing coincidence, the former record holder in both cases was the same athlete: Daniela Kolesnik.
ROC and Kazakhstan were very closely matched in the women’s junior competition, both having 4 world champions and 3 silver medallists. ROC took it on total GL points, assisted by Kseniia Materinskaia winning best lifter.
Equipped benching is a precise and technical sport and we were very impressed with the technique and mastery of their equipment shown by these young athletes who represent the future of our sport.
