We are in for a real showdown in the 69kg class - here are the nominations:
Marte Kjenner - NOR 542.5kg
Chandler Babb - USVI 530kg
Ivana Horná - SVK 515kg
Chandler Babb is the reigning world champion, having burst onto the international stage in Halmstad last year. She put together a massive 530kg total for the win in the brand new weight class, holding off two former world champions along the way. A truly outstanding debut. Chandler’s massive deadlift gives her the power at the end game so we are sure of an exciting finish in this class.
Marte Kjenner was the silver medallist last year, taking the world squat record and the European total record in the process. She is nominated ahead of Chandler, having set a personal best in all three lifts at Norwegian nationals earlier this month and she is looking hard to beat.
They will both need to keep an eye out for former World Champion Ivana Horná who is right behind, looking to capitalise on the fierce battle ahead. Ivana has been competing equipped as well as classic recently and has The World Games coming up in July - will this have impacted her raw training? She will need to be looking over her shoulder too, with no less than four challengers for the podium nominated within 20kg of her.
France’s Clara Peyraud and Sweden’s Agnes Rudin are facing off for the third time in the last year. Agnes took the win at Junior Worlds last year, but Clara finished ahead at Junior Europeans in December. Clara put up 500.5kg at French nationals and Agnes totalled 496.5kg at Swedish nationals in March so they are still as closely matched as ever but that’s not the only re-match we have! US lifter, Kristen Dunsmore beat teammate Chelsea Savit by only 2kg at US nationals, totalling 495kg and 493kg respectively, so we look forward to seeing who will come out on top this time around. With only 7.5kg covering the nominations for these four, it’s going to be impossible to call.
Don’t miss it! This session is on 8th June and will be going out live on Eurosport, the Olympic Channel and our facebook page.
