IPF Classic Worlds preview - 66kg class

The 66kg battle is going to be an interesting one! Here are the nominated totals:

Eddie Berglund – Sweden – 728.5kg
Panagiotis Tarinidis – France – 700kg
Joseph Jordan – USVI – 700kg

Pana is the reigning world champion and you would think he is the hot favourite in this class but he has some stiff competition this time out.

This is the third time recently that Eddie has challenged Pana – at worlds last year in Halmstad, Eddie took the bronze and Pana won. At the Europeans in Västerås in December, Eddie took the silver and Pana won. Is this a trend or can Pana hold him off again and retain his world title?

Eddie is the current world record holder in bench with nearly 50kg more than anyone else in class but he gives away about 30kg on deadlift which evens it up a bit. It should be noted that Eddie’s nomination of 728.5kg was done in the 74kg class so we don’t really know what he can bring to the 66s.

However, they are both going to have to keep an eye on Joe Jordan. This is Joe’s first world championships, and he is exploding onto the international scene, nominated with exactly the same numbers in every lift as the world champion.

With Japan’s Kyoto Ushiyama and Jonathan Garcia of the US only 20/25kg behind these three we are going to see a real battle for the 66kg title this year. Join us at 10am local time on 7th June to watch in glorious HD.
