IPF World Equipped - Day 3

Originally posted on IPF social media on 16th November 2023

We began Day 3 of the World Equipped with the 83kg class, and we had a head to head battle between team-mates Mykola Barannik and Vitalii Kolomiiets.   Barannik holds the squat world record in the class with the 375.5kg that supported his world title win in Denmark last year and indeed he took squat gold with 362.5kg.  Barannik pushed out even further on bench, taking the gold with 270kg.  Kolomiiets made up some ground with a heavier deadlift but Barannik had a perfect 9 for 9 day and could not be caught.

1  Mykola Barannik UKR - 935kg

2  Vitalii Kolomiiets UKR - 912.5kg

3  Matias Viiperi FIN - 865kg

The 63kg and 93kg classes lifted back to back with the 'A' group broadcast live on Eurosport.

Taylor LaChapelle, fresh out of the juniors, took the fight to the legendary Larysa Soloviova, matching her on squat with 237.5kg and snatching the squat gold on bodyweight.  They marched in lock step on bench too, both hitting 157.5kg so it could not have been closer at sub-total.  LaChapelle had the heavier deadlift though and hit all three where Soloviova only got her opener.  The 63kg class has a new queen.

1  Taylor LaChapelle USA - 630kg

2  Larysa Soloviova UKR - 600kg

3  Johanna Aguinaga ECU - 572.5kg

Volodymyr Rysiyev forged ahead from the start and took squat gold with a huge 387.5kg lift.  Kostiantyn Musiienko was always going to take the bench gold but he was a fair way off his best.  He extended his world record last year to an incredible 351.5kg but "only" managed 327.5kg here.  Still, it was enough to pull out a 10kg lead at sub-total.

Rysiyev reversed this with his opening deadlift but Musiienko, taking bigger jumps, closed the gap with his second pull.  Musiienko attempted to take the lead with his final lift but his grip failed him and Rysiyev took the crown.

1  Volodymyr Rysiyev UKR - 1025kg

2  Kostiantyn Musiienko UKR - 1015kg

3  Yoshiki Suzuki JPN - 937.5kg

LaChapelle and Rysiyev moved into the lead in the Best Lifter contest and Ukraine now leads Ecuador in the team competition in both men's and women's.  The 69kg and 105kg classes lift on Day 4.  Every session streamed live and for free on The Olympics YouTube channel.
