Day 10 at Junior Worlds - The Women

The sub-junior 84kg and 84+kg classes lifted together in the middle session of a packed day 10 at Junior Worlds.  Rebekka Reinert GER broke the sub-junior squat world record in the 84kg class with a solid 183kg.  More to come there!  The field was close in bench but Reinert's lead held out into deadlifts and she continued to hit, taking the title with a perfect 9 for 9 day.

In the super heavyweight class, Luella Bowden USA had a scare when her first and second squats were rejected for depth.  She sank it on her third thankfully but the issues derailed what might have been an attempt to extend her own squat world record, so recently set at NAPF Champs.  Team-mate Chealsea Enemor closed the gap somewhat on bench, attempting a world record of 120.5kg for her second.  She seemed to hit a wall not far off the chest though and had to take it again, but it just looked too heavy.  Bowden came out next and took the record for herself with 121kg.  This gave her enough of a lead that Enemor couldn't catch up and Bowden took the gold medal.

The women's competition closed with the junior heavyweight and super heavyweight classes.  In the 84s, Erholove Izobodo-John GBR had herself a day.  She broke the junior European squat record with 212.5kg and then went on to break Amanda Lawrence's junior deadlift world record with 253kg.  Incidentally, that is the biggest female deadlift in British Powerlifting history.  GB made it one-two with big bencher Melina Irawo taking silver.

In the 84+kg class, Lystus Ebosele IRL absolutely ran away with it, finishing 80kg clear of the field, despite not having the day she wanted.  On squat, 235kg looked incredibly easy for her second but she could not stand 245kg up.  Her first bench was rejected for insufficient elbow depth but she came back and nailed it on her second.  She took all three gold medals on her way to victory and her first world title.  A great finish and Ireland's first sub-junior World Champion.

Overall in the sub-juniors, Team USA beat Team GBR to first place by the closest of margins and with Team Hungary in third.   Luella Bowden and Chealsea Enemore, both USA, took first and second place in the Best Lifter contest with Chloe Tang SGP in third.

In the juniors, France was well ahead with three world champions, Italy in second and GB in third.  Samantha Eugenie FRA was the best lifter in this category with team-mate Ludivine Delos in second and Alba Bostrom SWE in third place.

Absolutely brilliant lifting right through the championships and these juniors will have the open lifters looking over their shoulders for sure.  The next generation are on their way and they are bringing the fire.
