The 105kg sub-juniors kicked off Day 10 of Junior Worlds and Demir Hamza AUT started strong with a squat world record of 301kg on his second attempt. This didn't stand for long though as John Endoso UAE took it immediately with fast and easy looking 301.5kg.  On the third round, Hamza squatted 310.5kg but it was turned down by the referees.  Endoso took 311kg anyway and looked like he had plenty more in the tank.

Hamza pulled away on bench though, taking the gold medal with 205kg - 30kg more than anyone else in field - and establishing a lead that proved to be hard to overcome.

Endoso stumbled with his opening deadlift and had to go again, albeit 5kg more.  Hamza meanwhile had no trouble and took the sub-junior total record with his opening pull of 315kg, giving him an 821kg total.  Endoso pulled 262.5kg to stay in the game but Hamza's advantage on both bench and deadlift could not be overcome.  Endoso was far enough ahead of the rest of the field to be safe with the silver medal.

Hamza took 330.5kg for a sub-junior world record in deadlift, looking pretty comfortable as he did so and pusing the total record up to 836.5kg.  Final pull of the session was 357.5kg - he got it to the top but his grip failed a moment too soon.  Still, it was an incredible performance and a harbinger of things to come for this young lifter.

The 105kg junior class came next and Antonio Perez Barros ESP set the pace with a new junior world record of 333kg on squat.  Rene Caky SWI, Fares Sboui TUN and Oliver Susa HUN all opened with 200kg and the race tightening up at the front.  Bench gold ultimately went to Susa with 215kg but the overall lead sat with Sboui, 2.5kg ahead of Caky and Bjarne Dücker GER another 2.5kg back.

Perez took 327.5kg for his second deadlift and slid up to second place, only half a kilo ahead of Caky at sub-total, that chip he picked up on squat coming in very useful here.  Caky pulled 327.5kg to take back second place and Perez loaded up 340kg to respond.  It was a little too heavy though and Perez had to settle for the bronze medal.   Meanwhile Sboui was untouchable and took the title with 852.5kg.

Phenomenal lifting.
