Day 7 of Junior Worlds began with the junior 63kg class and this was a close run battle. Ludivine Delos FRA opened her squat with a junior world record attempt of 184.5kg but seemed to go offline with it and could not stand it up. She hit it on her second but a third attempt at 188kg did not go. This gave Delos a useful lead but it was quickly reversed by Alba Bostrom SWE who took the bench gold with a massive 117.5kg, putting her 5 kilos ahead. Delos opened heavier on deadlift and managed to stay ahead into the third round. Bostrom hit 207.5kg deadlift for a 500kg total but Delos responded with 215kg a secured the victory by only 2kg. Exciting stuff.
The rest of the day was given over to the 74kg class. First the sub-juniors and Nicolas Gaines USA began as he meant to continue with a 240.5kg sub-junior squat world record. His lead was eroded somewhat on bench with Samuel Cohen FRA and Jack Reynolds USA only 3kg behind at sub-total. Gaines pulled out the big guns with another sub-junior world record, this time on deadlift with 273kg. This got him the sub-junior total world record too along with the Sub-junior World Title.
The junior 74s closed out the day with some close battles throughout the field. Alberto Herraiz Frances ESP took the gold in squat with 267.5kg but Bobby Kian Tong Tan SGP came past with a massive 190kg bench to take the lead. Tan hit problems though when his opening deadlift was turned down by the referees and Thomas Bouyer of France snuck ahead. With a lot of ground to cover, Tan took a 25kg jump to 265kg to snatch the silver medal and Bouyer was unable to respond. No one was catching Herraiz though and Team Spain picked up another world champion.
At the end of Day 7, Singapore led in the junior team contest ahead of Spain. With the heavier weight classes to come, this is likely to slip but what a great showing so far from Team Singapore.
