Jonathan Cayco USA 884kg
Gustav Hedlund SWE 880kg
Gavin Adin USA 880kg
Emil Krastev BUL 877.5kg
Sascha Stendebach GER 850kg
Four men are nominated within 6.5kg of each other right at the top top of the roster. This could hardly be closer. Cayco's nomination is from Sheffield in March where he placed second, hardly missing a lift. Adin's nomination is only 4kg behind and from the same event. However, Adin left at least 10kg behind when his world record attempt squat was turned down for depth. He has squatted the world record in competition twice now. We know he can move the weight - if he can put it together on the day, Cayco will not be safe.
Another man coming in with a big nomination is Hedlund. His 880 was from Swedish nationals back in February and he is looking to be in great shape in prep for this competition. He took the silver medal in Halmstad but finished off the podium in Sun City last year. He looks to be in the mix for the podium this year but there's another man right behind and looking to move up.
Krastev has been injured of late and this total is from his performance at world last year. The big question is what kind of condition Krastev is in. He was still carrying injury at Sheffield in March - is he fully recovered now? Only time will tell.
There's a bit of a gap after the top four and then we have two deadlifters looking to make waves. Stendebach and Christian Ayandokun (GBR) are both nominated on 850kg and are closely matched on deadlift so we are promised an exciting finish
