The 57kg class will lift on Tuesday 14th November, Day 2 of the World Equipped Powerlifting Championships - let's take a look at the top three nominations:

1  Kimberly Johnson USA - 560kg
2  Kenia Monserrate ECU - 537.5kg
3  Hui-Chun Wu CTE - 515kg

Incoming world champion, Kimberly Johnson is back to defend her title, and she is a decent way ahead on nominations.  2022 was a great year for Kimmy, with her first World Games appearance and, in November, her first open world title.  Her numbers are still trending upwards - can she make it back to back wins?

Kenia Monserrate was the classic junior world champion in 2014 and has graced the podium in the open category many times since, both classic and equipped.  We last saw her in Stavanger in 2021 where she narrowly missed the podium in the 63kg class.  She's back down in the 57s now and hoping to take the fight to Johnson.

Hui-Chun Wu also lifts both classic and equipped, but we haven't seen her on the international stage since 2018.  She totalled 552.5kg at the 2017 World Games so 515kg may or may not be representative of what she brings to the contest.

The 63s lift on Wednesday 15th Nov and will be split into A and B groups with the A group session being broadcast live on Eurosport.  Here are the top three nominations:

1  Taylor Lachapelle USA - 632.5kg
2  Larysa Soloviova UKR - 567.5kg
3  Radostina Lulova BUL - 550kg

Taylor Lachapelle might be only just out of the juniors but she already has many notches on her belt.  Three time sub-junior world champion, Taylor won the 2019 junior world title too before moving up to the open class.   Silver medallist in 2021, she did not take part in the 2022 World Championships.  She did, however take the silver medal at The World Games in Birmingham.

Larysa Soloviova is one of the most successful equipped lifters in the sport's history.  Ten time world champion, she won last year with 620kg so expect her to significantly outperform her nomination.  She has won the gold medal at The World Games four times, having attended every edition of the games since 2005.  Well into the masters category now, she is still fighting at the front in the open class.

We then have three lifters clustered around the 550kg mark so it looks like every podium spot will be hard fought.  Exactly as it should be.
